CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR IN DIGITAL MARKETING FOR TOURISM AND TRAVEL
Abstract
Abstract: The rapid growth of digital technologies has fundamentally transformed the tourism and travel industry by changing how consumers search for information, evaluate alternatives, make travel decisions, purchase tourism products, and share post-travel experiences. Digital marketing platforms such as social media, search engines, online travel agencies, mobile applications, influencer marketing, online reviews, and personalized advertising have become important tools for influencing tourist behaviour. This research paper examines consumer behaviour in digital marketing for tourism and travel, with particular emphasis on the factors influencing tourists' online decision-making and purchasing behaviour. The study is conceptual and analytical in nature and is based primarily on secondary information from academic literature, industry reports, and established theoretical perspectives. The paper examines the role of digital information, social media engagement, electronic word-of-mouth, personalization, online reviews, trust, perceived value, website usability, and mobile technology in shaping tourist behaviour. A conceptual framework is developed to explain the relationship between digital marketing activities and consumer behavioural outcomes. The study finds that consumers increasingly depend on digital platforms throughout the travel decision-making process, while trust, authenticity, convenience, personalization, and peer-generated content significantly influence purchase intentions. The paper concludes that tourism organizations should adopt integrated, consumer-centric, data-driven, and ethically responsible digital marketing strategies to improve engagement, conversion, satisfaction, and customer loyalty.
