THE STRATEGIC ROLE OF ASTROLOGY IN PREDICTING CONSUMER CHOICE: A CONSUMER BEHAVIOR AND BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
Abstract: This paper investigates the commercial relevance of astrology in shaping consumer choice and market behavior within contemporary branding environments. Although astrology lacks empirical standing as a predictive science, its symbolic value remains commercially important because consumers often rely on identity cues, heuristics, ritualized timing, and culturally resonant narratives when making marketplace decisions. Recent consumer research shows that belief systems, perceived usefulness, ratings, social endorsement, and trust cues can materially influence adoption and choice behavior, even when the underlying product claims are not evaluated through strict scientific verification. Building on this insight, the present study develops a conceptual and secondary-data-based analysis of astrological marketing, defined as the use of zodiac archetypes, auspicious timing, and celestial symbolism in brand communication. The paper synthesizes literature from consumer behavior, symbolic consumption, social identity theory, cultural anthropology, and behavioral decision theory to assess whether astrology-based framing can affect brand engagement, luxury consumption, and seasonal purchasing patterns. The analysis suggests that astrology functions less as an objective forecasting tool and more as a psychological catalyst that reduces ambiguity, enhances personal relevance, and increases emotional resonance among receptive audience segments. Its effectiveness, however, is contingent on cultural legitimacy, category fit, consumer predisposition, and the credibility architecture surrounding the brand. The paper concludes that astrology can serve as a niche but strategically useful segmentation and positioning device, while also raising ethical concerns regarding manipulation, vulnerable consumers, and the commercialization of non-empirical belief systems.
