Abstract

Abstract: The present study examines the changes in psychological empowerment experienced by women before and after their participation in Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Psychological empowerment, encompassing self-confidence, decision-making ability, sense of control, and self-efficacy, plays a crucial role in enhancing women’s social and economic status. Research focuses on evaluation of how SHG membership changes the perception of women's self-values, autonomy and social participation. The data for the study was collected from SHG members through structured questionnaires to measure variation in empowerment indicators such as public speech, financial decisions, problem coordination and confidence in social awareness. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in all dimensions of psychological empowerment after joining SHG. Women reported expressing opinions, increasing participation in decisions on domestic and society and more control over financial resources. Conclusions suggest that SHGs not only contribute to economic lifting through microfinance and savings, but also act as a platform for psychological changes and self-development. SHG's colleagues play an important role in strengthening mental flexibility and confidence of women. The study concludes that continuous support, leadership training and institutional link can increase the psychological authority of SHG members further, leading to the promotion of inclusive and sustainable rural development. Keywords: psychological empowerment, self-development, inclusive and sustainable rural development.
