THE INDIAN OCEAN REGION: INDIA’S INTEREST AND MARITIME LAW

Abstract

Introduction The vast Indian coastal line of more than 6,000 km wide extends deep into the Indian Ocean. Huge sea areas on three sides increase the intensity of the relationship between land and sea. This coastline is complemented by about 1,400 km of islands and rocky areas in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. India's geo-strategic location, size and physical configuration make it a natural leading force, as these factors are favorable enough to emerge a huge maritime power of great importance. India, which is in such a geostrategic situation, needs to review its strategy again and again. Geo- strategic Importance of the Indian Ocean is much more important for India than any other country in the world. His lifelines are concentrated in this region, and his freedom is synonymous with the freedom of the surface of this water. There is no industrial development or commercial growth and no stable political structure is possible for him if his beaches are not vigilantly protected. In addition to the strategic location of India, its geographical location and the Shape of the peninsula make its waters practically contiguous with the Indian landmasses
