IMPACT OF SOCIAL SUPPORT, SELF-ESTEEM, AND HEALTH PERCEPTION ON OPTIMISM AND LIFE SATISFACTION AMONG OLDER ADULTS
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of social support, self-esteem, and health perception on optimism and life satisfaction among older adults. A sample of 300 individuals aged 60 and above was surveyed using standardized scales to measure these variables. Results reveal that higher levels of social support, positive self-esteem, and favorable health perception significantly predict greater optimism and life satisfaction. Optimism also mediates the relationship between psycho-social factors and life satisfaction. The findings underscore the importance of fostering social connections, enhancing self-worth, and promoting positive health perceptions to support psychological well-being in later life. Implications for community interventions and policy frameworks aimed at improving quality of life among the elderly are discussed. Keywords: Aging, Social Support, Self-Esteem, Health Perception, Optimism, Life Satisfaction, Older Adults, Psychological Well-being.
