ASSESSMENT OF AMBIENT AIR QUALITY IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES OF SARAN DISTRICT, BIHAR

Abstract

The present study evaluates the ambient air quality in residential zones of the Saran district, Bihar, with a focus on key air pollutants including Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), Sulphur Dioxide (SO₂), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂), and Carbon Monoxide (CO). Ambient air samples were collected from multiple residential locations during winter and summer seasons. The findings were compared with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The results revealed seasonal variation, with higher pollutant concentrations observed in winter. The study indicates potential health risks and the urgent need for mitigation measures to ensure sustainable living conditions in these residential areas.
