THEORETICAL AND CFD STUDIES ON SHELL AND TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS
AbstractRecently, various researches and developments of heat exchangers with high thermal efficiency have been in progress to save energy. Baffles are used as design variables in a way that enhances heat transfer performance of shell and tube heat exchanger. There have been several of researches and developments in the relations between baffles and heat transfer performance. Existing studies on shell and tube heat exchangers are mainly about heat transfer properties of either segmental type baffles or helical baffles. However, there is inadequate of study with comparisons between the two types of baffles. Thus, this paper aims to research changes in heat transfer properties according to the number of segmental and helical baffles. It shows pressure drop, temperature difference of inlet and outlet, heating surface area of inner flow region, and heat transfer coefficient in tubes.
